Galatians 5:22-23 - The Fruit of The Spirit: Agape Love

Story summary

When Greybobby and friends help Uncle Greybilly pick apples, Bart and Sheila selfishly argue about who should go first. When Sheila trips Brushy and causes her to lose her apples, everyone gives Brushy some of their apples, which leads Uncle Greybilly to teach a lesson from Galatians 5:22-23: the Fruit of the Spirit and Agape Love.

Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

What Did We Learn?

The kind of love Jesus shows us isn’t about always getting our way or holding onto what we want.
Bart and Sheila had a me, me, me attitude. But Jesus helps us to have a sacrificial heart.
His kind of love is a sacrificial love—the kind of love that gives, shares, and puts others first, just like Jesus laid down His life for us.
When we “abide” in Him, His love grows in our hearts so we can give it away to others. That’s the fruit that really lasts.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us with a sacrificial love through Your Son, Jesus.
Help us not to cling to our own way but to share, to give, and to put others first as You have done for us.
Teach us to abide in Jesus so that His love flows through our lives to everyone around us.
In Jesus’s name we pray,
Amen.

Discussion Questions
