The Fruit of The Spirit: Self-Control

Story summary

Greybobby’s class takes a field trip to a local warehouse and gets to see a demonstration of a high-tech robotic exosuit. Bart becomes obsessed with the suit, and learns a difficult, but powerful, lesson about self-control.

Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

What Did We Learn?

  • Just like the ExoHelper 3000 needed someone wiser and stronger to guide it, we need the Holy Spirit to guide us.
  • On our own, we make messes, get ourselves into trouble, and sometimes drag other people into it too.
  • But when we follow the Spirit’s leading, He helps us do what’s right—even when our feelings want to go the wrong way.
  • That’s what true self-control is: not just “me controlling me,” but letting God help us from the inside.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving us Your Holy Spirit to guide us, strengthen us, and help us make wise choices.
Please teach us to listen to Your voice and follow Your leading so we can grow in true self-control.
Help us trust You more each day.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.

Discussion Question
