Advent Week Four — Jesus Shows Us What True Love Is
Story summary
Uncle Greybilly is helping deliver canned goods to the local food bank, and none of his Sunday School class are willing to help him. One by one, the class learns the importance of sacrificing their own wants in order to love others well.
1 John 3:16-18
By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
What Did We Learn?
- Real love isn’t just about warm feelings, sweet songs, or even fun Christmas plans. God showed us what love truly is when Jesus gave up His own life so that we could live. And when we understand that kind of love, it changes how we treat others.
- Love doesn’t wait for someone else to help. Love doesn’t look for the easiest path. Love doesn’t stay in words only.
- Love acts. Love sacrifices. Love shows up.
- Red discovered that love sometimes means giving up something we really want so we can serve someone who needs us. And the others learned that love isn’t an afterthought—it’s a choice that looks a lot like Jesus.
- So whenever we see the Advent Love Candle, we remember: Jesus didn’t just talk about love, He proved it by His sacrifice. And now we get to reflect that love in all we do. Let’s pray.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing us the greatest love through Jesus, who gave Himself for us.
Help us love others the way You love us, not just in words, but in real actions, even when it costs us something.
Make our hearts ready to serve, to give, and to show Your love to everyone around us.
In Jesus’s Name we pray,
Amen!
