Advent Week One — Jesus Is Our Truest Hope
Story summary
When the school bus breaks down on the way to the annual Christmas Advent Festival, Greybobby and friends reflect on their hopes about the festival, Christmas, and their hope for Jesus’s return.
Psalm 130:5-6
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.
and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.
What Did We Learn?
- Hope is not just wishing for something we want. Hope is trusting in promises, even when the wait feels long or the path is uncertain.
- Hope gives us courage to keep going, patience to wait, and joy even in the middle of challenges, because we trust in the character of God who made the promise. Just like the people of God waited for hundreds of years for the Messiah, and just like Betty didn’t give up hope that Uncle Greybilly would make it in time.
- God keeps His promises. That is our hope.
- Our truest hope is in Jesus, the light of the world, who came for us and will come again.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving us hope through Jesus.
Help us to trust Your promises, even when we must wait or face difficulties.
Fill our hearts with courage, patience, and joy as we celebrate Your coming.
May our hope in You guide us each day.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.
