#100: Proverbs 26:4-5 - Jesus Is Our Wisdom

Story summary

Red and Joy’s walk home is interrupted by Folly Foal, who is selling her very own newspaper. Red and Joy quickly discover that Folly’s newspaper contains some VERY outlandish stories, and go to God’s Word to find a way to help Folly see that she’s being foolish. They ultimately learn the lesson of Proverbs 26:4-5, that confronting foolishness is a bit like walking a tight-rope, and that ultimately, Jesus is our wisdom.

Proverbs 26:4-5

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

What did We Learn?

  • God’s Word is full of wisdom for real life.
  • Proverbs 26 reminds us that sometimes it’s best to stay quiet, so we don’t get pulled into foolish arguments. But other times, we need to gently answer so that lies don’t spread.
  • Most of all, we learn that Jesus is our wisdom. He knew when to stay silent before His accusers and when to speak truth.
  • He gives us His Spirit so we can walk that tightrope wisely, too.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing us how to live with wisdom.
Help us to know when to stay quiet and when to speak up, just like Jesus did.
Give us patience with people who believe silly things, and give us courage to share Your truth in love.
We trust You to guide us every day.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.
