#44: Proverbs 20:21 - Beware Easy Money

Story summary

In this Bible lesson, Greybobby comes into an unexpected fortune and decides to spend it all. It isn't until after he spends it all that he learns that it was given to him by mistake... and he has to pay it back. Greybobby learns from Proverbs 20:21 that he should beware hastily gained inheritances.

Proverbs 20:21

An inheritance gained hastily in the beginning
will not be blessed in the end.

What did We Learn?

  • It is hard to respect money we didn’t earn.
  • When money comes quickly, it is easy to spend it without thinking.
  • We need Jesus to teach us to be thankful for everything we have and to help us have gratitude for everything that we have so that we too won’t fall into the same sort of trap of temptation that Greybobby fell into.

Let's Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,
Give us gratitude deeply and from the heart.
Should we receive your blessings, let us respect those blessings and honor you with them.
Let us be careful not to fall in love with things that would compete with our love for you.
In Jesus’ Name we pray.
Amen.
