#65: Proverbs 15:16 - The Fear of The Lord is Better Than Wealth

Story summary

In this Bible lesson, Sheila Slyfox explodes in popularity when she starts buying ice cream for, and friendship from, everyone in school. Things begin to fall apart when her money runs out and she realizes that the friends that she paid for weren’t real friends at all. The kids learn from Proverbs 15:16 that the fear of the Lord is better than wealth.

Proverbs 15:16

Better is a little with the fear of the Lord
than great treasure and trouble with it.

What did We Learn?

  • It’s not wrong to have money, but when you think your money is better than trusting in the Lord, it causes big trouble.
  • Sometimes it is better not to have money and be able to see what’s true, like who your true friends are.
  • Red, Joy, and their families seem content with what they have. They don’t have all of the troubles and responsibilities that come with a lot of wealth... like not knowing who your friends are.
  • Once you start showing off what you have, you suddenly find people are looking for what you can do for them rather than who you are.
  • It is better to trust Jesus and be content with what He gives you, because His choices for our lives are better than what we want for ourselves.

Let's Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,
Help us to be content with what you give us.
So many times you don’t give us what we want, but you give us what we need. Like daily bread and good friends.
Thank you for the blessings we have and thank you for withholding the things you withhold. In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.
