#81: Proverbs 21:23 - BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU SAY
Story summary
In this Bible lesson from Proverbs 21:23, Barbara Yak is planning a surprise party for Joy Jackrabbit, and swears all of her friends to secrecy. Unfortunately, Oliver Cuckoo Bee eavesdrops on an innocent conversation between Betty and Brushy, and soon the secret is out. Sheila and Venomous conspire to spoil Barbara’s surprise party... and hurt Joy’s feelings. Betty learns the lesson of Proverbs 21:23: to be careful of what she says.
Proverbs 21:23
Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue
keeps himself out of trouble.
keeps himself out of trouble.
What did We Learn?
- Our words are powerful, and when we don’t control what we say, we can hurt others and ruin good things—like a surprise party!
- Proverbs 21:23 tells us that “Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.”
- Betty didn’t mean to hurt anyone, but she let her hurt feelings and excitement lead her to share something she should have kept secret. Then Oliver told Folly, and soon the secret was everywhere.
- Even worse, hurtful words were added that made Joy feel like she didn’t matter.
- Keeping quiet when we need to—and using kind words always—is one of the ways we can follow Jesus and love others well.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing us how important our words are.
Help us to use our mouths to build others up, not to spread hurt or secrets.
Teach us to be wise and kind with what we say, and to think before we speak.
Thank you for forgiving us when we mess up and for helping us make things right.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.
