#95: Proverbs 25:11 - Speak the Right Words at The Right Time
Story summary
When Uncle Greybilly is hit on the head, he becomes confused and thinks he is the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Greybobby and friends chase him across town trying to reason with him but, in his confusion, he won’t listen. Ultimately, Joy reminds them of the lesson of Proverbs 25:11— to speak the right words at the right time.
Proverbs 25:11
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
What did We Learn?
- Sometimes the right thing to say isn’t the most obvious thing.
- God’s wisdom teaches us that words aren’t just about truth—they’re about timing, tone, and tenderness. A true word spoken at the wrong moment may not help at all.
- But when we follow Jesus, He helps us speak in a way that brings healing, peace, and even rescue—just like He did when He spoke words of grace to hurting hearts all through His ministry.
- When we were lost and confused, Jesus didn’t shout us down. He didn’t just tell us we were wrong. He came near. He entered our story. He met us in our confusion, and He spoke the perfect word at the perfect time: “Come to Me.” “Your sins are forgiven.” “It is finished.”
- When we follow Jesus, we’re learning not just what to say, but how and when to say it—with love, humility, and faith.
- So next time you want to help a friend, or even correct a brother or sister, don’t just blurt it out. Ask Jesus for help. He gives us the grace to speak the right word at the right time.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your perfect wisdom and Your perfect timing.
Thank You for Jesus, who spoke words of truth and love that rescued us when we were lost.
Help us be more like Him—slow to speak, quick to listen, and gentle when we use our words.
Give us the grace to know when to speak and how to speak, so that our words are like apples of gold in settings of silver—beautiful and helpful in every way.
In Jesus’s name we pray,
Amen.
