#37: Proverbs 20:2 - Respect Rightful Authority
Story summary
In this Bible lesson, Camp Chuckleberry gets a substitute director who’s a stickler for the rules. His style of leadership bothers Greybobby and friends, who learn a lesson from Proverbs 20:2, and the importance of respecting rightful authority.
Proverbs 20:2
The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion;
whoever provokes him to anger forfeits his life.
whoever provokes him to anger forfeits his life.
What did We Learn?
- God has placed people in authority for a reason.
- We are to respect that authority over us, and we are to yield to it, as long as it isn’t asking us to go against what God has told us to do, because the authority has been given the power to give us consequences for not yielding to it.
- Reflected in that authority is something of God’s authority over us.
- Yielding to authority helps us keep our hearts in check, because sometimes it isn’t someone’s leadership we disagree with, it’s the idea of being led.
Let's Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Give us hearts that yield to authority.
Help our hearts to yield to your authority, because sometimes what we really don’t like about the authority over us is being told what to do.
In Jesus’ Name we pray.
Amen.
