#57: Proverbs 11:2 - Pride Comes Before the Fall
Story summary
In this Bible lesson, Holly Hyena’s bragging lands her in hot water when her acting skills are put to the test at the annual Thanksgiving play. As her pride takes a hit in front of the whole school, Joy’s humility is rewarded and everyone learns a lesson from Proverbs 11:2 about pride coming before the fall.
Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with the humble is wisdom.
but with the humble is wisdom.
What did We Learn?
- Pride can cause us to make big statements about ourselves that ultimately lead to disgrace when we can’t live up to our big talk, yet humility allows us to see ourselves the right way.
- Joy showed humility by being willing to be in the show, or just serve tables. Her humility brought her wisdom to handle the situation.
- Jesus has to put that kind of humility in our heart, a kind of humility that Paul wrote about in Philippians when He wrote that Jesus, “...though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”
- Let’s pray that Jesus would give us the same humility!
Let's Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
So many times we want to talk big about who we are and what we can do.
Give us humility like Jesus.
May we experience the wisdom that comes with humility so that we can learn how to honor others more than we honor ourselves.
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen.
