#84: Proverbs 23:4-5 - Our Worth is In Jesus

Story summary

Barbara and Sheila compete head to head in a sales competition to prove once and for all who is the better businesswomen. As they run themselves ragged, they soon discover that wealth doesn’t last, and that our true worth comes from Jesus.

Proverbs 23:4-5

Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist.
When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.

What did We Learn?

  • Chasing after money can wear you out—and in the end, it can all disappear really quickly.
  • Proverbs 23:4-5 reminds us not to wear ourselves out trying to get rich. Why? Because wealth doesn’t last—it can vanish like an eagle flying away.
  • There’s something— someone— who does last forever: Jesus. Instead of chasing after money, we are invited to rest in Him.
  • Jesus gives us our value—not how much we make, sell, or prove. When we trust Him, we don’t have to keep striving to show we’re enough. We already are… because of His love and because He is enough.
  • So if we ever feel the need to prove ourselves by what we own, win, or earn, let’s remember this: our worth isn’t in our wallets. It’s in the One who gave everything for us. His name is Jesus.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us that chasing after money can wear us out and leave us empty.
Help us to find our value not in how much we earn, but in how much You love us.
Thank You for sending Jesus, who gives us true riches that never fly away.
Teach us to rest in Him and live with wisdom. In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.
