#98: Proverbs 25:14 - Do Not boast In Yourself
Story summary
Uncle Greybilly is still on the loose, this time believing himself to be Flim Snakeoil, a con-man who wants to make a quick buck with a miraculous bottle rocket that can make it rain. As his scam falls apart, Greybobby and friends remember the lesson of Proverbs 25:14: do not boast in yourself.
Proverbs 25:14
Like clouds and wind without rain
is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.
is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.
What did We Learn?
- Uncle Greybilly—calling himself Flim Snakeoil—boasted of power he didn’t have. He promised rain, but all he delivered was smoke. In the same way, empty promises and self-reliance always leave people thirsty.
- Jesus is not like that. He never makes promises He can’t keep.
- When He speaks, His word is faithful. When He offers living water, He actually gives it—abundantly, eternally, to all who believe in Him.
- We don’t have to pretend or boast to make ourselves look important. Instead, we can point to Jesus, who supplies what our souls truly need.
- In a world full of “clouds without rain,” Christ alone gives real refreshment.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You that Your promises are true and never empty.
Forgive us for the times when we pretend to be more than we are, or boast in our own strength instead of trusting in You.
Teach us to rely on Jesus, the Living Water, who always keeps His word and always satisfies.
Help us to be people whose words point others to Him, not to ourselves.
In Jesus’s Name we pray,
Amen.
