#82: Proverbs 22:1 - A Good Name Is Better Than Riches
Story summary
In this Bible lesson from Proverbs 22:1, Mayor Porkins announces that one student will be selected to be “Mayor for a Day.” While Barbara, Sheila, and others try to win by being flashy, rich, loud, and important, Joy quietly goes about her business trying to help others without expecting anything in return. By doing the right thing because it is right, she wins the competition and illustrates the truth in Proverbs 22:1— that a good name is better than riches.
Proverbs 22:1
A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
and favor is better than silver or gold.
and favor is better than silver or gold.
What did We Learn?
- Being known for kindness, honesty, and love is worth more than all the money or fame in the world.
- The way we treat people matters. Doing what’s right, even when no one is watching, builds a good name—and that’s something truly valuable.
- We can’t do that on our own, we need Jesus’s help.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for reminding us today that being kind and doing what’s right matters more than being rich or important.
Help us to care about our character more than our image, and to look for ways to serve others just like Joy did.
May we always choose to have a good name rather than chase after riches or attention.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen!
