The Simple Catechism: Introduction

Story summary

Uncle Greybilly and Mr. Noctura introduce a new invention: a portal to other dimensions. As Greybobby and friends prepare to embark on missions to learn more about God, Uncle Greybilly reminds them to be careful not to follow the guidance of the wicked, but follow and trust in Jesus and God’s word.

Proverbs 12:26

One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

What Did We Learn?

  •  Not every adventure is safe just because it looks exciting, and not every voice that sounds confident is telling the truth.
  • God reminds us in Proverbs that the righteous guide others toward what is right, but the wicked try to lead people astray.
  •  That means we have to be careful who we listen to and where we follow. Just like Venemous is out to deceive Greybobby and the others, we too have a deceiver who wants to lead us off of the right path.
  •  Even when the path feels confusing, or when we don’t fully understand what’s happening, God is still with us.
  •  The greatest truth we can hold onto is this: Jesus is the same in every place, every world, and every situation.  He is the truth, and when we follow Him, He leads us the right way, even into the unknown.
  •  Whether we’re facing something new, something hard, or something that feels a little scary, we can trust Jesus to guide our steps, protect our hearts, and bring us home.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Help us to listen to the voice of truth.
Help us to know when someone’s trying to deceive us and lead us astray, or lead us off the right path, but help us also to trust Jesus when we step into the unknown… when we step into the unpredictable.
Because following Him leads us the right way.
It’s in Jesus name we pray,
Amen.

Discussion Question

How can following Jesus comfort you in scary or difficult situations?
