The Simple Catechism #8
What is a Covenant?
A covenant is a promise that God makes with us and guarantees in His Word.
Story summary
Red and Bart are teleported to the headquarters of a secret organization that shares God’s truth across the multi-verse. As they learn more about the organization, and Uncle Greybilly’s history as an agent, they learn that a covenant is a promise that God makes with us and guarantees in His Word.
Ephesians 2:12
Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
What Did We Learn?
- We learned that a covenant is not just a fancy word for a promise. It is a promise that God Himself makes and guarantees in His Word. That means it cannot fail.
- God does not forget. He does not change His mind. He does not break His promises. When He says He will do something, He does it.
- We also learned that being a “stranger to the covenants of promise” means living without knowing those promises without hope and without God in the world.
- But God does not want anyone to stay a stranger. He invites us into a real relationship with Him.
- A covenant is not just information in your head. It is trusting God with your heart.
- And unlike squeaky chickens, floating robots, or limited warranties… God’s promises never expire.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You are a God who makes promises and keeps them.
Thank You that Your Word is true and that we can trust You completely.
Help us not just to know about You, but to know You personally.
Thank You for giving us hope through Your covenant promises.
Help us to believe them, trust them, and share them with others.
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen.
