The Simple Catechism #17
How Do We Trust In God?
God gives us new hearts to believe!
Story summary
In this simple catechism lesson, Greybobby and friends hunt for a legendary statue in an ancient jungle. As they get lost and turned around by a faulty compass, they learn that their own hearts are like the compass: broken and misleading. They learn that in order to trust God, they need God to give them new hearts to believe.
Ezekiel 36:26
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
What Did We Learn?
- Trusting God does not begin with us being smart enough, strong enough, or good enough. It begins with God changing our hearts.
- The Bible says our hearts are broken by sin. When we trust our hearts, we wander away from God instead of toward Him.
- But Jesus came to do something amazing for us: He died on the cross and rose again to save sinners and to make us new.
- Through Him, God takes away our hard hearts that do not want to trust or obey Him, and He gives us new hearts that believe.
- We trust in God because God Himself changes us from the inside out.
- He gives new hearts that love Him, trust Him, and follow Jesus.
- Trusting God is not just about trying harder. It is about Jesus making you new.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Jesus to save us and change us.
Thank You that when our hearts are sinful and stubborn, You do not leave us that way.
Thank You for giving new hearts that believe and trust in You.
Help us not to trust in ourselves like a broken compass, but to follow Jesus every day.
Please keep changing our hearts to love what is good and true.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
