The Simple Catechism #3
What Is Sin?
Sin is falling short of what God made us to be and do, and disobeying God's commands.
Story summary
Greybobby and friends visit the town of Kitchenton, where they find a chef and his disobedient helpers. Seeing the trouble the helpers are causing teach Greybobby and friends that sin is falling short of what God made us to be and do, as well as disobeying God’s commands.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
What Did We Learn?
- Sin isn’t just doing something “really bad.” Sin is falling short of what God made us to be and what He made us to do, and it’s also disobeying what God clearly tells us to do or not do.
- Just like the O-Mitts didn’t do the work they were created for, and the Com-Mitts did things their own way instead of following the recipe, we all fall short and disobey God.
- The Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 that all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. That’s why we can’t fix our hearts by trying harder, we need to be rescued.
- The good news is that God has provided that rescue through Jesus.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing us what sin really is and for helping us understand that we all fall short of Your glory.
Thank You that You do not leave us stuck in our sin, but that You love us and rescue us through Jesus.
Help us to trust You, obey Your Word, and live the way You created us to live.
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen.
