The Simple Catechism #12

What Do We Call God’s Plan to Rescue Us from Sin?

Redemption

Story summary

In this simple catechism lesson, Bart and Red switch bodies and struggle to find a way to fix the mixup. Uncle Greybilly steps in to help, putting himself in danger in the process. His selflessness serves as a reminder of Jesus’ death and resurrection as part of God’s plan to rescue us from sin: redemption.

Ephesians 1:7

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

What Did We Learn?

  • Redemption is God’s plan to rescue us from sin and make us right again, even when everything has gone wrong.
  • Just like Bart and Red were all mixed up and couldn’t fix themselves, they needed someone else to step in and take their place to make things right, Uncle Greybilly showed us a picture of that by going into danger so they could be rescued.
  • That reminds us of something even greater: God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to redeem us, to rescue us, and to pay the cost for our sin so we could be forgiven, be freed, and be made new.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us enough to rescue us when we could not rescue ourselves.
Thank You for sending Jesus to redeem us and make us right again.
Help us to trust in Your plan and to remember how great Your love is for us.
In Jesus' Name we Pray,
Amen.
